Trenton City Council discussed implementing tougher restrictions on the transportation of marijuana in accordance with state law during its meeting Monday.
Public Act 460, effective Dec. 27, 2012, states that a person shall not transport or possess usable marihuana…in or upon a motor vehicle or any self-propelled vehicle designed for land travel unless the usable marihuana is one or more of the following:
- Enclosed in a sealed case that is carried in the trunk of the vehicle.
- Enclosed in a sealed case that is not readily accessible from the interior of the vehicle, if the vehicle in which a person traveling does not have a trunk.
who violates the law is "guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for
not more than 93 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both," the council said.
The city plans to adopt the ordinance at its Feb.3 meeting.
