Elizabeth Park Building Renovated and Renamed

Formally known as the Shelter Building, Chateau on the River has recently undergone major renovations and now offers an ideal location available to the public year-round.

After major renovations, the waterfront venue Chateau on the River is now available to the public for special events, according to a Wayne County press release.

Wayne County Parks recently announced the opening of the former the Shelter Building, located along the edge of the Detroit River at Trenton’s Elizabeth Park.

The nearly $700,000 renewal project is being paid for by the Wayne County Capital Improvement Budget.  The project also received incentive funding from DTE for their energy efficiency program, based on the HVAC system and lighting implemented in the building.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, in a statement, said that the venue is “one of the county’s historic gems,” ideal for weddings, corporate events, family gatherings and other activities.

“The 7,360 square-foot updated venue features a lobby, a main hall that holds up to 150 guests, ante room, warming kitchen, utility room as well as ADA accessible restrooms inside and outside.  The main hall and ante room includes a state-of-the-art sound and video system with stage lighting,” the release said.
