Trenton Wildlife Refuge Groundbreaking Postponed Due to Government Shutdown

A groundbreaking for the new Visitor Center at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge in Trenton won't happen as scheduled Wednesday due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, according to U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-12th District).

“It’s an absolute shame that the partisan bickering and wayward ways of Washington have forced us to postpone this important event at the Refuge, but I’m hopeful a resolution will soon be reached and we can continue on with this planned project without further delay,” Dingell said in a written statement.

“The partnerships we’ve been able to build throughout Southeast Michigan and with our friends in Canada have helped to grow the Refuge to more than 17,000 acres of preserved wildlife. I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish together, and look forward to taking part in this important groundbreaking event soon.”
