Motorists Damage Barricades, Use Closed Exit on Fourth of July

The Woodhaven exit ramp was closed for construction in June.

Barricades intended to stop traffic from exiting I-75 at West Road were moved and damaged on July 4 near Trenton.

The Woodhaven exit ramp was closed for construction in June.

Wayne County staff noticed that the ramp was re-opened and that some of the barricades and detour signs were placed on the ground, according to Cindy Nocerini Dingell, deputy chief operating officer of the Wayne County Department of Public Services (WCDPS).

Nocerini Dingell said the re-opening of the ramp is a violation of a permit issued by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

"This incident is unfortunate and some of the barrels and barricades were damaged as a result," Nocerini Dingell said in a WCDPS release.

Ramp closure, detour signs and barricades will be reset or replaced by  4 p.m. July 8.

Nocerini Dingell said Wayne County will likely file police reports regarding the incident.
