Riverview Landfill No Longer Accepts Electronics Recycling

Wyane County residents continue to attempt to recycle electronics at the Riverview Land Preserve after a short stint of open electronics recycling ended in December 2012.

Electronic waste collections began at the landfill in March 2012 as part of a partnership with Wayne County.

Instead of having a site open year-round, Wayne County decided to hold collections at various locations throughout the county, said landfill administrative assistant Karley Weber.

Weber said residents should contact Wayne County Department of Public Services 734-326-3936 for information regarding specific electronic waste collection dates.

Here's a list of upcoming electronic waste collection dates throughout Wayne County:

• May 31 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and June 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Huron Township Department of Public Works, 19555 Sterling St. in Huron Township.
• June 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Faith Christian Assembly, 25201 Outer Drive, in Melvindale.
• September 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Livonia Department of Public Works, 12973 Farmington Road, in Livonia.
• September 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Redford Township Department of Public Service, 12200 Beech Daly Road, in Redford Township.

Acceptable items include:

• Computers, laptops, keyboards, mice and monitors.
• Televisions, VCRs, CD players and DVD players.
• Stereos and speakers.
• Cell phones and telephones.
• Microwave ovens.
• Christmas lights.
• Game consoles and handheld electronic devices.
• Computer parts and miscellaneous cables.
