Patch Readers Not Pleased With Closing of Woodhaven Kroger

Where will you shop after the Woodhaven Kroger on West Road closes?

Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch readers have spoken.

The closing of the Woodhaven Kroger location is not good.

The Kroger on West Road is set to close on June 22. There are no plans to replace the store.

Dale Hollandsworth, a consumer communications representative for Kroger, said shoppers should use nearby Krogers in Brownstown and Grosse Ile.

Hollandsworth told Patch the store is scheduled for closing because the store "is getting some age on it" and is "a bit tired."

Readers expressed their feelings about the store closing on the Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch Facebook page and in the comment section of the Patch article announcing the closing date.

Above are comments left on Facebook and below are comments left on the initial article.

Tell us what you think abou the closing of the Woodhaven Kroger? Where will you shop after June 22?

  • Zack Foxworthy May 31, 2013 at 03:16 pmWhy is it going out of business? I always thought I saw a lot of people shopping there whenever I went so I assumed they were doing good business and making a profit. This is so sad, another business closing, and a Major franchise at that. I never knew they were struggling I always thought they were still making money. Maybe there'll be a going out of business sale or something?
  • Home Owner, Tax Payer May 31, 2013 at 09:39 pmI like this old store, it has a small time feel. I don't care for the giant mega marts. I guess I will have to go over to Grosse Ile.
  • Sophie Radakovich May 31, 2013 at 11:04 pmNow that would be a great place for a Trader Joe's!! What to you say Mayor Odette? Want to give it a try and contact TJ's?
  • Dusty One June 1, 2013 at 08:14 amWhat a great store! It is really the only "Grocery Store" not a 'Superstore', around anymore. It seems they spruced it up, had a great bottle return area that actually worked, and a very friendly staff, many of whom have worked for this Kroger for many years. The Gibraltar Rd. Kroger is Massive, difficult to get in and out of, and not so convenient for Trenton folks. Grosse Ile is not exactly handy to have to go to either. And talk about higher prices! Many Seniors (and others of us too) don't like to have to deal with Walmart or Meijer..... too big and very crowded. It's a shame to see Kroger leave Woodhaven..... :(
