On the article Patrick Colbeck: How to Raise Road Money Without Raising Taxes
TJ
11:35 am on Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Reply"Did you know that we pay $833 million in debt payments every year? If we paid off our state “credit cards”, we would have an additional $833 million per year. Instead of paying interest to banks, we could even start to earn interest that could help fund our roads. Perhaps, we should invest our economic growth “dividend” and even our rainy day fund to pay off our debt. Once the slate is clean in as little as two years, we can ramp up the appropriations for our roads. "
This seems like a no brainer. Paying all that money in interest is downright stupid. Pay off your car and your credit cards. Pay off your house as soon as possible. Try a 15 year or 10 year mortgage instead of a 30 year. Live within your means.
Thank you Senator for trying to bring some common sense to Lansing. You face an uphill battle. Don't get discouraged. Keep fighting.

ReplyI agree. Our property taxes are not the place for the zoo, DIA, or any other place to be raising funds. If you can't cover your costs with admission and donations, you need to close your doors or start selling baked goods. People, stop voting for these scammers and their money grabs!

Two questions about this comment:
1. If The Taft-Hartley Act is what you say, why do all teachers (and hourly auto workers) not have the choice to join the union?
2. Why is the starting salary of a Van Buren schoolteacher so low that it is disgraceful? Isn't that person represented by the MEA? -

ReplyI see people texting while they are driving almost every day. I usually see them weaving first or sitting at a green light no going. Then I look to see and sure enough, they are reading or typing away. Put away your phones and drive!
