Man and Woman Approach Young Girl at Elizabeth Park in Trenton

The following information was supplied by the Trenton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Trenton police received a report about a man and a woman approaching a young girl at about 8:15 p.m. April 27 in Elizabeth Park. A 59-year-old grandfather told police he was riding bicycles with his four grandchildren when a man and woman in a silver, possibly 2008, Ford F-150 approached one of his grandchildren. The man said he was about 30 to 40 yards behind his grandchildren when he noticed the male driver of the truck speaking with his granddaughter. When he arrived at the truck he asked the driver what was going on and the male replied, "The little girl looked tired I was seeing if she needed a ride," according to a Trenton police report. The man said his grandchildren were fine and the two drove away. The man described the driver as …

How to Get Fit Without Joining a Gym in Trenton, Grosse Ile

Strap on your pedometer, grease up your baby stoller, and hit the road for a workout that will take your breath away! With Elizabeth Park and the Detroit River, Trenton and Grosse Ile offer plenty of options.

As the deputy editor of FITNESS Magazine, Mary Anderson has her finger on the pulse of the latest workout trends. But what she really craves is running outdoors. “It’s just not the same on a treadmill—I get inspired by the outdoors, whereas I cover the treadmill’s digital readout with my towel!”  And with good reason: Fitness experts widely agree that seeing greenery while working out reduces stress and can improve performance. Yet only 22 percent of women exercise outside of the gym, according to a recent Women’s Health survey. With some creative planning, you can skip the gym—including the monthly payments and the wait lists for hot yoga—and hit the road (or laundry room) for some serious conditioning. Here are some ways to get fit …

New Coffee House in Downtown Trenton to Retain Historical Significance

Mark Hayes of Grosse Ile plans to decorate the interior of a new coffee shop in the same manner as one of his other businesses--Dotte Pub in Wyandotte

The interior design of a new coffee house in Downtown Trenton is expected to showcase Trenton's rich history through historic photographs. Mark Hayes, 41, of Grosse Ile, plans to open a coffee house in the former A&W building, which he purchased last week. Hayes said he hopes people will rekindle old traditions--started before the A&W closed three years ago--and begin new traditions at his coffee house. "I want to focus on Trenton's historic value," Hayes said. Hayes is part-owner of Dotte Pub in Wyandotte, where he and his two business partners spent nearly $70,000 restoring the old Edinger Hotel bar to its former glory. Work crews restored original crown molding and wall sconces that had not functioned in more than 30 years. The walls at…

Hi! I came across this through a discount site. It is local and they do franchises. I thought this may work with the coffee shop. We already have ice cream and custard but this is a yogurt place and looks super good and maybe more healthy. Just an idea... http://bloomberryyogurt.com/ I went to a similar place in California and loved it. You make as much as you want, there are a ton of options for…   more ›

Marshmallow Drop Draws Hundreds to Elizabeth Park in Trenton

The annual Marshmallow Drop sponsored by Wayne County Parks and the Trenton Exchange Club provided prizes for every child.

Once each year, marshmallows are considered valuable currency at Elizabeth Park in Trenton. Children chased down more than 20,000 marshmallows dropped from a helicopter and exchanged them for prizes Friday during the annual Marshmallow Drop. Hundreds of children marched into an open field on a desperate hunt for the soft, sweet spheres, while parents like Jenna Graves and Stephanie Springer of Wyandotte watched from a safe distance. "I liked it," Graves' 3-year-old daughter Payton said. "It dropped a lot of marshmallows." Springer's daughter Madison, 2, had a bucket filled with at least "1 million" marshmallows. Children bearing marshmallows, and those without, received an activity set including an Easter-themed coloring book, sketch pad …

Is the Shelter Building at Elizabeth Park Open Yet?

Wednesday was the first day of spring. Is the Shelter Building at Elizabeth Park open for the new season?

Despite the changing of the season, the Shelter Building at Elizabeth Park was not open Wednesday. Wayne County Park System officials set and missed at least two opening dates since construction began on the project in 2010. Lawrence Hemingway, deputy director of Wayne County Parks, said the building would open in July 2012--most recently. Trenton City Administrator Jim Wagner said park system officials have begun taking reservations for weddings and other parties or events. An opening date was unavailable from sources at Wayne County Parks Wednesday afternoon. Hemingway could not be reached for comment. The 29th annual Marshmallow Drop at Elizabeth Park is set for 9 a.m. March 29. Does that answer your question?

Thousands will gather in Elizabeth Park at 9 a.m. March 29 for the Marshmallow Drop, where over 20,000 soft, fluffy treats will be dropped from the sky.
