Trenton Police Pepper Spray Driver Who 'Could Not Be Late for Work'

A Trenton police officer used pepper spray on a 60-year-old man who allegedly attempted to elude the officer to avoid being late for work at about 4 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant, according to a Trenton police report. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on Fort Street near Lathrup Road while driving behind a man in a silver Dodge Dart driving the car at speeds of up to 75 mph, according to the same report. The officer said the car continued at 45 mph and turned into the parking lot at 2000 Van Horn Road where the driver parked the car in a parking spot near the engine plant's entrance turnstiles. UPDATED: Chrysler to Make Big Investment in Trenton Engine Plant

The Detroit Free Press and MLive report that Chrysler will invest $40 million in the Trenton North engine plant.

Trenton may receive an infusion of money from Chrysler, according to reports in the Detroit Free Press and MLive. According to the reports, Chrysler will put $40 million toward the Trenton North engine plant. The money will be used to install a flexible assembly line to make Pentastar and Tigershark engines. The investment is one part of a larger commitment by Chrysler to create about 1,250 new jobs in southeast Michigan, according to a release from U.S. Rep. John Dingell. "I’m proud of Chrysler," Dingell said in a press release. "With its new investment in the Trenton plant, hardworking folks in Michigan will be put back to work making Pentastar and Tigershark engines. Chrysler Reports Best June Sales in 5 Years

Chrysler Group LLC attributes their best June sales in five years to a number of different successes including a substantial increase in FIAT sales.

So often a success for Chrysler is, in turn, a success for Trenton with the Trenton Engine Plant pumping out Petastar engines for a number of Chrysler vehicles. Sales are up 20 percent for Chrysler Group LLC across the board including the best June sales in five years, according to a Chrysler release. There are a number of successes that helped Chrysler get to their 27th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains including: In case you missed it, Chrysler is hiring five positions at the Trenton Engine Plant. Each is a salaried position for assembly, engineering, maintenance and supply chain management.

Chrysler Engine Calls City Hall Home

A Chrysler Pentastar V6 engine in now on display at Trenton City Hall.

A fully-assembled Chrysler Pentastar V6 engine can be found on display at Trenton City Hall for about the next three months. Mayor Kyle Stack said she and Trenton officials arranged the new display with Chrysler officials to show residents exactly what is being built at the Trenton Engine Plant just a few miles away. "I like it," Stack said. "People are stopping by to see what it's all about." City Clerk Trish Gearhart joked she was happy the engine is nearby in case she ever needs parts for her Chrysler 200's engine. The engine is located near the front doors of city hall. The doors have been blocked off for over a year due to damaged concrete. The concrete was fixed in September, but Trenton officials decided to keep the barriers in …

Chrysler, the biggest employer in Trenton, has received two items of good news in the past two days. Most recently, Chrysler announced a profit of $212 in the third quarter, the automaker’s second quarterly profit since undergoing bankruptcy in 2009, according to the Detroit Free Press. That follows news that the UAW had ratified a contract with Chrysler that will ensure jobs in the U.S., including at the Trenton Engine Plant, the Detroit News reported. However, a majority of workers in Trenton voted against the deal, according to the Free Press. What does this mean for Trenton? Trenton's City Budget Dependent Upon Chrysler, UAW Agreement

Chrysler generates about $4 million annually in tax revenue for the city of Trenton.

Trenton doesn't have health care benefits or signing bonuses at stake in the tentative deal between Chrysler and the United Auto Workers (UAW). But the city's livelihood is at stake. The Chrysler LLC Trenton Engine Plant makes up about 25 percent of Trenton's total annual tax revenue, which works out to about $4 million each year, according to Trenton Mayor Gerald Brown. "Our dependency on Chrysler is huge," Brown said. "The new agreement would make them the highest tax revenue source, by far." Before the Trenton North Engine Plant closed in 2011 the amount of annual tax revenue was higher, and Brown said the new agreement could get the city out of a financial hole it fell into when Chrysler closed the plant.
