New Miss Michigan Jaclyn Schultz Will be Positive Voice for the State

Wyandotte woman, 24, adjusting to life after capturing the crown; will represent Michigan at Miss USA pageant.

Jaclyn Schultz, of Wyandotte, was networking in her career as a media strategist when she decided to enter the Miss Michigan pageant as a new challenge. A newcomer to pageants, Schultz was hoping to finish in the top 15. But instead, she won the crown. Schultz, 24, who works for Brogan & Partners in Birmingham, was crowned Miss Michigan USA 2013 at ceremonies in Port Huron. She was among 70 women who competed for the title of Miss Michigan USA on Sept. 29 at McMorran Theater in Port Huron. “I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I was sobbing in all the pictures.” She was a little nervous about being in the Miss Michigan pageant, but it was more excitement on her part, Schultz said. “I channel my nerves toward it being a positive thing.” On …

Trenton Woman Opens Resale Shop in Wyandotte

Children's and maternity resale shop moves onto Biddle Avenue.

Wyandotte shoppers have gained a new business to shop at this summer. Mom's Little Secret is a children's and maternity consignment shop, and it's location couldn't be better. Right next door to R.P. McMurphy's on Biddle Avenue, Mom's Little Secret is a bright addition to the downtown area.  Sign up for the Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch newsletter. The store accepts in-season clothes. Everything should be freshly cleaned and pressed. The better the condition, the more money the items will bring. Aside from clothes, they also accept infant and children's furniture, shoes, toys and decorations. The seller receives 40 percent of the money made off the items sold. Great Escape: Celebrate Freedom With a Bang

Join the fun and watch the Wyandotte fireworks show.

If you're looking for a great way to spend Friday night, consider making your way to Bishop Park or BASF Waterfront Park to watch Wyandotte's annual fireworks display. The show will start at dusk (9:30 p.m.) June 24. The fireworks will be launched from Point Hennepin along the Detroit River. Restroom facilities are available at Bishop Park, the BASF Waterfront Park, as well as temporary portable toilets at the south end of the Bishop Park parking lot. Those who attend will be asked for a $1 voluntary donation to help offset the cost of the fireworks and security. Bishop Park is located at 2701 Van Alstyne St. BASF is located on Biddle Ave. just south of Eureka Road.

Great Escape: Enjoy an Outdoor Flick at Night

The Goonies will be shown at the old Wyandotte Theater lot at dusk June 10. This event has been reschedule for July 1 due to rain.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier. This week's Great Escape is a free event where you can relax and enjoy a movie. The City of Wyandotte will present their outdoor movie series, starting with The Goonies, June 10 at 9:30 p.m. at the old Wyandotte Theater lot on the corner of Elm and First streets. The film begins at dusk and attendees must bring their own seating. Refreshments will be available for purchase, or viewers can bring their own.
