John Robert Kennedy, 43, of Trenton, made a bomb threat over the phone to Trenton High School on April 28, 2011 using a foreign accent.
A 43-year-old Trenton man was sentenced to nine years in prison Friday for possessing explosives and making bombs, according to United States Attorney Barbara McQuade. John Robert Kennedy was convicted of possession of a destructive device, felon in possession of a destructive device and manufacture of a destructive device after a three-week jury trial. Kennedy also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of explosives and ammunition. United States Judge John Corbett O'Meara sentenced Kennedy to 108 months in prison and ordered him to pay a $20,000 fine. Evidence presented in the trial showed that on April 28, 2011 Kennedy telephoned a bomb threat to Trenton High School, while disguising his voice in a Middle Eastern accent. Kennedy …

Police responded to a call about a man struck by a vehicle at about 3:15 p.m April 30 at the Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant. Police found a man lying in a parking lot and a woman standing next to a light green Jeep Liberty a few feet away. The man, who was conscious and coherent, told police he was walking to his vehicle when he was struck by a car that pulled out of a parking spot. The woman said she pulled out of the parking spot and didn't see the man "until he flew across her hood," according to a Trenton police report. Police arrested the woman on a warrant out of Taylor for larceny and issued her a citation for careless driving. Trenton police responded to a call about a man with his pants down at a bus stop touching himself at about 1 p.m. April 29 at West Jefferson Avenue and Truax Street. The caller said the man appeared to be masturbating. She said the man had his pants pulled down to his knees and was "touching his penis with his hands under his boxer shorts," according to a Trenton police report. When officers arrived at the bus stop they asked the 31-year-old man about the report. The man said he had to pull his pants up because his belt was too loose, according to the report. Trenton police received reports involving a man driving a silver pickup truck with a female passenger approaching young girls on April 24 and 27.
Trenton police amped up their search for a man and a woman reportedly driving a silver Ford F-150 Wednesday, according to Chief Jim Nardone. "We are actively investigating and checking into leads into the ownership of the pick up truck in question," Nardone said. Police received reports involving a man driving a silver pickup truck with a female passenger approaching young girls on April 24 near Charlton and Lenox and April 27 in Elizabeth Park. Police are following up on several leads in an effort to identify the individuals in the pickup truck. Nardone did not confirm that the two reports are related. Trenton police received a report about a man and a woman approaching a young girl at about 8:15 p.m. April 27 in Elizabeth Park. A 59-year-old grandfather told police he was riding bicycles with his four grandchildren when a man and woman in a silver, possibly 2008, Ford F-150 approached one of his grandchildren. The man said he was about 30 to 40 yards behind his grandchildren when he noticed the male driver of the truck speaking with his granddaughter. When he arrived at the truck he asked the driver what was going on and the male replied, "The little girl looked tired I was seeing if she needed a ride," according to a Trenton police report. A 35-year-old nurse at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center told Trenton police a patient struck her with a cane at about 9 p.m. April 22. The nurse said she was working her job in the emergency room when a patient became angry with her and the doctors for not giving her the medication she wanted. The patient got up from a table and attempted to leave with an IV still in her arm, according to a Trenton police report. The nurse tried to stop her to remove the IV and properly discharge her from the medical center, but the patient swung her cane at the nurse striking her in the right hand. Trenton police responded to a shattered door at The Loonar Station at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. The owner told police nothing appeared to be missing out of the store. Police said an alarm went off after the door was shattered and, possibly, scared the person away. Cash that was in the store at the time of the break-in remained untouched. A 12-year-old girl is safe after a couple approached her as she walked to her bus stop shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of Charlton Road and Lenox Street. The girl told police a man and a woman pulled up alongside her in a silver pickup truck. The male was driving the truck and the female was in the passenger seat, according to a Trenton police report. The female asked the girl if she needed a ride and the girl responded, "no." The truck then drove away, according to the same report. The girl said she had never seen seen the truck or the occupants prior to the incident. A 19-year-old Trenton man reported someone stole more than $300 from him after responding to a listing on Craigslist.org for a rental property in Lincoln Park at about 6:30 p.m. April 17. The man sent $310.50 via Western Union for a deposit on the rental house at about 9:30 a.m. April 17, according to a Trenton police report. Later the same day the man drove to the rental house to find the house was listed for sale. The man contacted the renter who said owned the property, according to the same report. I was still going to school at Trenton when this happened. What I don't get is why we were all forced to cram into the football stands. What if one of the bombs were outside near there? And they must have not done a thorough job searching because we were sent back into the school very quickly. Anyway, I'm glad this man was finally sentenced.   more ›
