Trenton Athlete Signs to Play Soccer at Cleary University

Trenton High School senior Kyle Gill was the starting goal keeper for the Trojans for the last three years.

Trenton High School senior Kyle Gill signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Cleary University this fall. Gill started as goalkeeper for three years as a Trojan. He posted nine shutouts and earned an all Downriver honor from The News-Herald for athletics and academics. Gills plans to major in business administration at Cleary University. Trenton Athlete Signs With Division 1 College

Trenton High School senior Natalie Righetti signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Oakland University.

Trenton High School senior Natalie Righetti signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Oakland University. Righetti lead the Trojanettes to several league, district and regional victories. She was selected for the all state team during her junior year. Righetti is a scholar-athlete with a 3.5 grade point average and actively participates in several Trenton clubs and organizations including the Trenton Rotary Club and Spanish Club. "It feels great to sign to a D1 school," Righetti said. "It's an accomplishment I wanted to have. Academically I hope to get into the nursing program there at Oakland. Alumni Soccer Game Brought Trenton Grads from Around the Country

Those interested in donating to the Trenton High School soccer team should contact the school during regular school hours.

Trenton graduates from as far away as Park City, UT and San Diego, CA gathered at Trenton High School July 14 to play in the annual alumni soccer game. Nearly 40 Trenton alums participated in the second year of the event. The game was created to raise money for the team and this year did not disappoint. "Fun was had by all and we were able to raise a couple bucks for the Trenton High School boys soccer team," coach Keith Kneiding said. Trenton High School students Tom Fioritti and Brian Terechenok each scored two goals in the game. Anyone interested in donating to the Trenton High School boys soccer team should contact the school during regular school hours.

Trenton Soccer Players Sign With University of Michigan Dearborn

Trenton High School has two boys varsity players going on to play soccer at the college level.

Trenton High School has two boys varsity soccer players who have signed to play at the University of Michigan Dearborn. Matt McCourt and Chris Porreca signed a letter of intent with the university on May 17. McCourt played forward for the Trojans and Porreca was a star defender, according to Bret Woodley, athletic director at Trenton High School. This year Trenton High School has had several students sign with colleges and universities in Michigan and Ohio.

Trenton Soccer Loses Semifinal Match to Bloomfield Hills Marian

Bloomfield Hills Marian eliminated Trenton Wednesday night in the semifinal game of the Division 2 state playoffs by a score of 5-2.

Bloomfield Hills Marian got out to a quick start Wednesday night against Trenton and cruised to a 5-2 win in the Division 2 state semifinal game at Farmington Hills Harrison High School. The victory for Marian sends the team on to play Plainwell on Saturday for the state title, while the Trojans loss wraps up the team’s season. Since 2003, Marian has captured four state titles, including back-to-back crowns in 2009 and 2010, while Trenton has never won a state title. Girls Soccer Team Raises Big Cash for Breast Cancer

The Trenton High School girls soccer team raised money for the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

The Trenton High School girls soccer team raised big bucks for the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Karmanos Cancer Institute last month. The team presented Maggie Walsh, district coordinator for Karmanos, with an oversize check for $1,500 on May 4. The fundraiser took place during a home game on April 18 against Carlson High School. Players raised money by selling t-shirts, raffling off gift baskets donated by parents and a 50/50 raffle. The field was decorated with over 50 posters of players' friends and family members affected by cancer.

Trenton Girls Soccer Featured on 'STATE CHAMPS!'

The Trenton High School girls soccer game against Woodhaven was featured on www.statechapstv.com.

After a tough double-overtime 4-2 loss to Woodhaven the Trenton High School girls soccer team was featured on "STATE CHAMPS!." The teams went back and fourth in several shootouts after regulation, until Woodhaven finally came out on top. "STATE CHAMPS!" is a sports television talk show features video clips and commentary of recent high school sporting events. The Trojanettes were tied for second place in the Downriver League before the start of the game.

Trenton Student Named as Finalist in Scholar-Athlete Awards

Trenton High School student Abigail Wilson is in the running for 32 MHSAA scholarships.

One Trenton High School student is among 120 finalists for the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2011-12 school year. Senior Abigail Wilson was picked from among 1,363 applicants submitted by Michigan schools. She was picked among 11 students submitted by Trenton Public Schools. Wilson has played basketball and soccer for Trenton High School. The MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Program will honor 32 of the 120 finalists from MHSAA member schools who participate in at least one sport in which the association sponsors a postseason tournament. Farm Bureau Insurance underwrites the Scholar-Athlete Award, and will present a $1,000 scholarship to each recipient. To be eligible for the award, students must have a …

Trenton Boys Soccer Team Wins District Title

The Trenton High School boys soccer team snags Division 2 district championship.

The Trenton boys soccer team claimed the Division 2 district championship when they beat Divine Child 2-1 in a double overtime nail-biter at Trenton High School. Senior Matt McCourt opened the scoring in the first half when he dribbled around a defender and beat the keeper on a breakaway to give Trenton a 1-0 lead according to head coach Tony Ciarlo. Divine Child scored in the last minutes of regulation sending the game into overtime. The teams played two 10-minute overtime halves. Trenton's Chris Porreca scored on a penalty kick early in the second overtime and the defense was able to hold off Divine Child to secure the win. Kyle Gill picked up the win in net. Trenton Boys Soccer Team Moves on to District Championship

The Trenton boys soccer team beat Crestwood 4-1 in round 2 of district play.

The Trenton High School boys soccer team has earned their spot at the big boys' table. The Trojans beat Crestwood 4-1 in round 2 of district play, and will move on to the championship game against Divine Child at noon on Saturday at Trenton High School. Senior Matt McCourt led the way with two goals. Sophomores Garret Nabozny and Davide DiPoce picked up the other two goals. Junior Kyle Gill picked up the win in net. Coach Tony Ciarlo said he thought his defense played a great "shutdown second-half defense."
