UPDATED: Grosse Ile Schools Outrank Trenton Schools in Bridge Magazine Report

The school districts rank 357th (Grosse Ile) and 424th (Trenton) in Bridge Magazine’s top-to-bottom list of Michigan schools.

A new report issued by Bridge Magazine this week shows 52 Michigan public school districts and charter schools were named Academic State Champions for the 2011-12 school year. Trenton Public Schools were ranked 424th overall out of 560 school districts and Grosse Ile Township Schools were ranked 357th. TPS received a VAM of 95.92 and GITS received a VMA of 98.07. …

Sorry but according to this Taylor and Lincoln Park are doing way better? Not to be mean but I don't think this test reflects what I consider important. I'll do what I can to make sure my child always does his best. I totally agree about Snyder though. They totally chopped the funding for our schools when they need it the most. We lost programs and schools because of it. Kids are crammed into …   more ›

Snyder Vetoes Bill That Would Have Allowed Guns in Trenton, Grosse Ile Schools

The bill would have allowed concealed weapons in gun-free zones such as schools and sports arenas.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has vetoed a bill that would have allowed concealed weapons into public schools and sports arena, according to a report on Michigan Public Radio. The Michigan Legislature passed Senate Bill 59 late last week that would have allowed concealed weapons in gun-free zones, but in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, CT, many had called for Snyder to veto the legislation. David Hecker, Michigan President of American Federation of Teachers (AFT) said in a Friday statement, "We’re aghast that this lame duck legislature thinks it’s a good idea to put MORE guns in our schools, let alone places of worship or sports arenas...The House passed SB 59 on Thursday. How dare these lame duck legislators put the safety of …

I was so glad to see that the governor used some common sense here and also took into account public opinion to veto this bill. Something Snyder totally refused to do with regard to vengeful right to work legislation.   more ›

Everyone has taken pay cuts and lost jobs, not just teachers. The underprivileged can come to Trenton Schools then, it's not their fault that their administration runs their districts poorly. It's about time that Trenton started playing the game. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get the money back from the State. Sure, it's one of the crappy things about Proposal A, but people …   more ›
