Future Trenton Coffee Shop Grinds Some Patch Readers

A new church and coffee shop is currently under construction in Downtown Trenton causing some Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch readers to offer feedback on Facebook.

The Bridge church and coffee shop is moving into Downtown Trenton and friends of the Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch Facebook page have mixed feelings. Let's say normal business hours it is a coffee shop without pushing an agenda and off times a church. You see a lot of churches who cater to a younger crowd doing things like this. Metro South did. I don't see any harm. If you don't want to go, don't go. It is better than a vacant building. It is something good for the community. New Coffee Shop, Church Coming to Downtown Trenton

Construction is underway for a new church and coffee shop in Downtown Trenton.

Construction began last week on a new church and coffee shop located at 2714 W. Jefferson Ave. in Downtown Trenton. Pastor Matt Laginess, 32, of Trenton, helped begin a church called The Bridge in August 2012, and recently purchased a building next to The Perfect Dress to create a place of worship and a coffee shop all in one. Laginess said The Bridge is an Assemblies of God church that attracts a more youthful following, but doesn't exclude anyone. Laginess said he anticipates construction to be completed on the church in time for a service on Easter Sunday, March 31, but did not have have an official opening date set for the coffee shop.
