Fourth of July Fireworks Are a Go in Trenton

Last year, Fritz Enterprises in Trenton donated thousands of dollars to pay for a fireworks display that was nearly cut from the budget.

The Trenton 2013 Fourth of July Fireworks are expected to be just as intense and entertaining as last year's after city officials secured the same companies that brought the thunder in 2012. Allen Audio Systems LLC and Ace Pyro LLC are set to put on a pyro-musical at sundown on July 4 at Rotary Park in Trenton. Joann Perna, director of parks and recreation, said she was extremely pleased with the professional service Allen Audio provided in 2012. The company worked closely with city employees to overcome several obstacles presented as a result of inclement weather. The cost for the sound system is $3,000. A contract with Ace Pyro was approved in 2012 for a three year bid award ending in 2014. The total cost for the fireworks display is not…

Perseids Meteor Shower 2012: Peak Time and Place to Watch in Trenton

Look for a meteor shower in the sky all week, especially this Saturday and Sunday. Trenton has the perfect spot to witness the action.

The Perseids Meteor Shower 2012 can work for you as a cheap date night, just take your significant other to Rotary Park in Trenton on Saturday night and into Sunday morning. If the clouds cooperate (that means if they stay away), you can see the annual meteor shower any night this week. Space.com tells us these objects are tiny bits of rock and debris from an old comet, which is named Swift-Tuttle after the astronomers who discovered it in 1862. The shower splashes through the sky every year in early August when Earth passes through the comet Swift-Tuttle's orbit and sweeps up some of this debris. We see shooting stars -- rapid streaks of light -- as the tiny rocks encounter the thin upper atmosphere of the Earth and the air is heated to …

Rain Delays Big Show, Thins Crowd at Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks

Residents said this year's fireworks were the biggest and best of all time.

Trenton officials were expecting a record-setting crowd for Trenton's Fourth of July Fireworks Wednesday, but weather conditions caused delays that impacted overall attendance. Joann Perna, director of Trenton Parks and Recreation, said patrons headed for the hills at about 7:30 p.m. after a thunderstorm threatened to cancel the highly-anticipated event. "Rain kept some people away and put a bit of a damper on the event," Perna said. "We might have lost a few people because of the rain." Though some people left Rotary Park following the rains, many returned and stayed for the duration of the event. Between 8,000 and 10,000 people attended the event, which is slightly above average, according to Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone. Perna said …

I have not been to a Trenton fireworks in years but I certainly hit the jackpot this year. Even with the storm the fireworks were outstanding. "Incredible" was how my little 3-1/2 yr old foster boy put it. Trenton can stand proud on this one!!   more ›

WE are all so grateful to Fritz, fine, but don't you all find it ironic that the reason they paid for it is because the city was having trouble doing it themselves?? Did you know that this is the same family that is sponsorign a BIG $250 a plate fundraiser for a major Republican candidate in Wyandotte? Perhaps so they can ensure that they get big tax cuts, cities will continue to suffer in …   more ›

Trenton Patch's Guide to the 2012 Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks

The sky above Rotary Park is poised for one of the greatest firework displays in Trenton's history, and it's all happening Wednesday night, July 4. Find out when to get there, where to park, what to eat and when to look up — all right here.

Fine Art Displayed Near Major Trenton Landmarks

Six original reproductions of fine art dating as far back as the 16th century can be seen in some of the most unlikely places throughout Trenton.

One of the first questions on some residents' minds when they saw a beautiful work of art hanging outside Trenton City Hall Tuesday morning was whether the elements would destroy the painting. Short answer -- no. It's by design. Reproductions of fine art were installed outside major landmarks in Trenton as part of the Detroit Institute of Arts' Inside/Out program for 2012. Trenton is one of 29 Michigan communities to be selected for the program and rest assured all the pieces of art are reproductions, but residents can visit the actual works of art and many others at the DIA for free on August 19. Residents can show their driver's license for free admission to the museum. Six pieces of fine art will be on display at city hall, the police …

Road Closures, Prohibited Parking for Trenton Fireworks

There are a number of places thrill seekers will not be allowed to drive or park throughout the areas surrounding Rotary Park during the Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks on July 4.

"Get there early," Joann Perna said, director of Trenton Parks and Recreation. This is sage advice for anyone attending the Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks on July 4 beginning at 8 p.m. Traffic control is an important issue for the city during the fireworks celebration, according to Deputy Chief Steve Voss of the Trenton Police Department. All road closures and parking restrictions will be clearly marked. There are three road closures residents should be aware of:  Parking will be restricted in several places surrounding Rotary Park: Handicap parking will be available on the north side of Atwood Street between Riverside Drive and the Detroit River and on the north side of Harrison Avenue between West Jefferson Avenue and Riverside Drive…

Fine Art to be Installed at Rotary Park and Other Locations Throughout Trenton

Trenton residents can enjoy reproductions of fine art scattered around the downtown area both inside and outside thanks to the Detroit Institute of Arts' Inside/Out program.

What's the one thing Rotary Park is missing? Give up? The answer is fine art. Trenton was selected to participate in the Detroit Institute of Art's Inside/Out program for 2012. Six original reproductions of fine art dating as far back as the 16th century will be installed in some of the most unlikely places throughout Trenton's downtown area. Some of the pieces hang on the sides of buildings, while others are freestanding throughout the downtown area. The pieces are clustered within walking or biking distance from each other to encourage people to get out and view them all. The masterpieces will be installed on or before July 3 and will remain until Sept. 30 in several different locations: Residents of Trenton can visit the actual works of…
