Trenton Student Honored as 2013 National Merit Semifinalist

Trenton High School senior Ian Boettner plans to pursue a career in mechanical engineering from one of two schools to which he has applied -- the Michigan Technological University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ian Boettner was honored at the Trenton Board of Education meeting Monday for being a semifinalist in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. Boettner, a senior at Trenton High School, has an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring, according to a release by Trenton Public Schools. Boettner thanked the Trenton Public School system and high school Principal Michael Doyle for his success. Trenton School Board to Recognize National Merit Semifinalist

Trenton High School senior Ian Boettner currently has a 3.99 grade point average and scored a 34 on the ACT.

Trenton Public Schools officials are set to officially recognize the Trenton High School semifinalist for the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the board of education building. He participates in cross country and band, and scored a 34 on the ACT.
