On the first day of spring, the weather forecast calls for snow, snow and more snow.
It's the first day of spring, and Woody, Michigan's Official Groundhog, who resides at the Howell Conference & Nature Center, has faced the fact that this year's seasonal prediction was incorrect. According to the National Weather Service, the forecast in Trenton and Grosse Ile for Wednesday night is more snow showers and a low around 19 degrees. Thursday's forecast is a 50 percent chance of snow showers, cloudy, with a high near 32 degrees. Not your average spring weather. Like all female woodchuck prognosticators, Woody is not afraid to admit when she's wrong. State Rep. Pat Somerville, R-New Boston, released a statement Tuesday informing constituents that Michigan was ranked fourth in sates with major new corporate facilities and expansions in 2012 by Site Selection magazine.
State Rep. Pat Somerville today applauded the announcement that Michigan has been ranked the No. 4 state for major new corporate facilities and expansions in 2012 by Site Selection magazine. One of the new corporate projects that helped propel Michigan into the top-five spot was automotive supplier Brose, which oversaw an expansion in New Boston. Congressman John Dingell concluded a three-day series of constituent meetings Wednesday with community officials and leaders including Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone.
Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone met with Congressman John Dingell Tuesday to discuss gun control. Nardone was among other local law enforcement officials, state legislators, mayors, school superintendents, mental health advocacy groups and area sportsmen to discuss the ongoing national conversation surrounding gun violence prevention during a three-day series of constituent meetings, according to a Dingell release. Nardone said many topic were discussed in the meeting including more effective background checks, straw purchases and mental health issues and their influence on gun laws. Martin Luther King, Jr. left his mark during his lifetime as a civil rights activist, including a couple stops in the Detroit area. 1. Original Dream Speech - King first delievered the "I have a Dream" speech to a crowd of 150,000 at Cobo Hall in Detroit, two months before the famous rendention during the March on Washington in 1963. 2. Historical Recording - The original version of the "Dream" speech was recorded by Gordy Records, a subsidiary of Motown Records in Detroit. 3. Rosa Parks Bus - When she refused to give up her seat to a white person on a public bus in 1955, Rosa Parks, a tired black seamstress, sparked the civil rights movement that King led. President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.
President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The campaign Obama won was the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion.
