Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack has sent several emails to a major gourmet grocery chain to encourage the company to open up shop on Van Horn in Trenton.
Trader Joe's has four locations in Michigan and Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack wants to add one more to the mitten. Stack has contacted the major gourmet grocery chain four times via email to recommend they bring the store to Trenton. Stack said she thinks the former site of the Metro South Church, 3000 Van Horn Road, on the corner of Fort Street and Van Horn Road would be the perfect spot to house a Trader Joe's. A representative of Trader Joe's responded to one of Stack's emails Tuesday afternoon: "Rest assured, every email is read and your recommendation will be passed along to our real estate folks." A connection has been made. What do you think about Trader Joe's coming to Trenton? If not Trader Joe's, then what?

Carlo and Joe's Deli and Bakery in Riverview attracts customers from Trenton, Grosse Ile and Ann Arbor.
Don't let the flocks of scavenging seagulls nearby fool you -- Carlo and Joe's has top-quality food made fresh to order. The benefit to having a deli and bakery so close to the Riverview Land Preserve is the steady stream of city employees that come for lunch and dinner -- from both Trenton and Riverview. "I don't think it hurts us," Geri Norris said. "We hardly smell anything." Carlo and Joe's Deli and Bakery, 15520 King Road, was opened by owners Carlo and Joe Evola in 2007. The store is located in a shopping center near the corner of King Road and Grange Road in Riverview. Customers visit the deli for fresh meats to take home for dinner or to eat right on the spot. Norris, Carlo's sister, said she makes sandwiches out of deli meat, …

Concepts in Travel packed up and moved everything to the empty space right next door.
When Rena Rowe, 54, learned she would have to move her business in February she was convinced the move would not be beneficial. "I thought, 'Oh my God,'" Rowe said. "Things were so bad for me. It was doom and gloom." After searching for a new place in cities across Downriver, Rowe settled on the location right next door to her previous location. She even got to keep her old address and phone number. Rowe said the owner of the property she was leasing had planned to make her previous location a doctor's office and asked her to find a new location for her travel agency, Concepts in Travel. The plan for the doctor's office has since been dissolved, but the new location has brought more business than ever before, according to Rowe. "I'm so …
