Trenton High School hosted the 3rd annual Victory Day for over 60 cognitively and physically impaired children from Downriver schools.

The sound of banging drums and speakers echoing into the sky took over Farrer Field on Saturday for a football game unlike any other played this season. Much of the day was filled with sounds normally heard at a football game except the crack of a tackle was replaced with the sound of children laughing and realizing a lifelong dream of playing football—it was Victory Day. Victory Day, created by Trenton High School football Coach Aaron Segedi, gives special needs children a chance to score a touchdown, with all the fanfare of a real game. Trenton's Victory Day Seeks Sponsorship

A local coach's idea has grown to be one of the year's biggest events in Trenton.

Victory Day has grown from a local coach's modest idea in 2010 to a can't miss event that has recently drawn interest from Nike. While Nike provides Victory Day with support and recognition, the event is seeking sponsorship on a number of levels. Last year, former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr attended the event. Carr has already agreed to make the same commitment for this year's Victory Day. Trenton teacher and football coach Aaron Segedi initially created Victory Day as a way to build character in his athletes, but the event has far exceeded his expectations.
