Detroit Red Wing Legend Darren McCarty Coming to Trenton

Darren McCarty played for 15 seasons in the NHL, 13 with the Detroit Red Wings. Find out where in Trenton you can meet the hockey legend and get an autograph.

Detroit Red Wing legend Darren McCarty is coming to Legends 1926 Bar and Grill from 8 to 10 p.m. Dec. 22 to meet with fans, take photos and sign autographs. McCarty was invited to Legends by restaurant owners and fans can enjoy an evening with a National Hockey League superstar at no charge. Fans are welcome to bring memorabilia for McCarty to sign. "He will take pictures with guests and mingle with them, as well," according to restaurant manager and head chef Jeff Opalinski. McCarty is a four-time Stanley Cup winner who played for 15 seasons in the NHL, 13 with the Detroit Red Wings, according to NHL.com. Legends 1926 Under Construction Again

New security measures are being enacted to honor an agreement with Trenton city officials.

Legends 1926 Bar and Grill at Kennedy Recreation Center is under construction, after officially opening the doors in March. Changes are currently being made to the number of ways in which patrons can enter and exit the restaurant in order to satisfy a security agreement with the City of Trenton. Trenton officials showed concern about the amount of access patrons have to restricted areas of the recreation center including the ice arena after the arena is closed. Construction is taking place near a universal access hallway located between the restaurant and the suites located on the second floor of the arena, where a wall is being erected and windows are being added. Patrons Can't Drink Alcohol Outside Legends 1926 During High School Games

Trenton High School has eight suites available during games. The suites are located directly across the hall from Legends 1926 Bar and Grill.

Trenton hockey fans will have to keep the booze inside Legends 1926 Bar and Grill, after restuarant owners agreed to a policy that does not allow alcohol to be served or consumed outside the confines of the restaurant during high school related events, according to Trenton city officials. Though the issue was not stated in the initial contract between the Kennedy Restaurant Group LLC and the City of Trenton, restaurant owners have agreed to not serve alcoholic beverages anywhere outside the restaurant including inside the arena and in suites located on the second floor. Trenton Officials Seeking New Agreement With Legends 1926 Bar & Grill

Despite paying over $40,000 to the City of Trenton since entering into a contract with the city, the restaurant at Kennedy Recreation Center still owes the city more than $50,000.

Trenton officials have begun seeking a new agreement with the owners of Legends 1926 Bar and Grill, which could give officials the legal right to automatically vacate the premises immediately upon violation of the agreement. City Administrator Jim Wagner said the new agreement could contain language that would allow city officials to sever the contract between the City and Kennedy Restaurant Group LLC and force the restaurant out of the Kennedy Recreation Center, if the restaurant group falls into future defaults. Wagner said the proposed contract addendum has not been agreed upon by both parties and must be approved by Trenton City Council members.
