Get Your Shred on at the Kennedy Recreation Center

The recycling event will be held Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kennedy Recreation Center.

Feel the need to clean and go green? Then take your old tires, electronics and documents to the Community Shred at the Kennedy Recreation Center on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The City of Trenton will collect scrap tires and old electronic equipment in parking lot of the recreation center. Residents also can take their old documents to the community shredding, which is sponsored by the Trenton Civic Commission.

Trenton, Visually Impaired Students Hit the Ice at Kennedy Recreation Center

Trenton hockey coach Mike Turner said Downriver visually impaired students and high school students began skating together more than 40 years ago.

Trenton High School hockey players and Interact Club members spent Tuesday morning helping visually impaired students experience the exhilaration of skating at the Kennedy Recreation Center. Whether they were seated, standing or listening in from the sidelines visually impaired students from elementary, middle and high schools across Downriver felt the brisk air against their faces and cold, wet ice against their legs. Some of the more talented skaters, such as Trenton senior Andrew Lindsay, seemed to skate faster pushing a chair than by himself. Seated in the blisteringly-fast chair in front of Lindsay was fifth-grader Matthew, who said he was certain he was traveling at least 75 mph and would have been happier zipping across the ice at …

Trenton's Jamboree on Ice is Going to be 'Wicked'

Trenton's 45th annual Jamboree on Ice at the Kennedy Recreation Center is set for March 21, 22 and 23.

Ice skaters of all skill levels will be bringing Broadway to the Kennedy Recreation Center for this year's Jamboree on Ice. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the annual event scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 21 and 22 and noon and 6:30 p.m. March 23. The ice show will feature themes taken right from Broadway with skaters moving to music from Mama Mia, Wicked and Mary Poppins. Tickets are available at a discount in advance at the Department of Parks and Recreation Office at Trenton City Hall or the Kennedy Recreation Center. Registration Has Begun for Andy Greene Hockey School at Kennedy Ice Arena in Trenton

Former Trenton Trojan and current New Jersey Devil Andy Greene's youth hockey school has one of the most unique instruction in the Detroit area, according to the school's website. Greene added a defense only group, which is new to the school and available for those registering for the 2013 program. Registration has already begun and ends on May 1, or when the school is full. The camp takes place at the Kennedy Recreation Center and is open to mites, squirts, pee wees and defensemen of pee wee & bantam age. Teens Will Compete to Impress Scouts at Prep Hockey Showcase in Trenton

Athletes from across the country and beyond will descend on Trenton to compete in front of college coaches and scouts at the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League Prep Hockey Showcase Feb. 6-9.

Over 80 scouts packed into the Kennedy Recreation Center last year for the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League (MIHL) Prep Hockey Showcase, and showcase officials are expecting as many or more this year. Over 43 top-ranked high school teams, with hockey players from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario, are set to play several games over the four-day event, according to an MIHL release. "There's going to be a lot of great hockey and a lot of scouts come from all over the place," said Tim Beaker operations manager at Kennedy. Downriver area teams Trenton, Wyandotte and Dearborn are expected to play in the showcase. The 13th annual showcase is set for Feb. 6-9. Trenton Boys to Play in Tribute Hockey Game for Former Coach

Local hockey coach Kurt Montroy died Dec. 3, 2012.

Youth hockey players from all around Trenton knew local travel hockey coach Kurt Montroy from the time they were five years old to the day he died, Dec. 3, 2012. He was 49 years old. Nearly 40 of Montroy's former players, including his son, Max, 14, are playing in a hockey game to pay tribute to one of Trenton's most beloved coaches. The game begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the Kennedy Recreation Center. "Kurt would have liked to see the game and to get all his boys together playing hockey," game organizer Ana Ramsey said. Comcast to Air Friday's Trenton High School Hockey Game

The Michigan High School Athletic Association and PlayOn! Sports are kicking off a new winter sports initiative by airing Friday's hockey game pitting Trenton High School against Gibraltar-Carlson High School on Comcast.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association and PlayOn! Sports are making it easier to catch a high school sporting event by airing 17 winter events on Comcast--beginning with Friday's hockey game featuring the Trenton Trojans and Gibraltar-Carlson Marauders at the Kennedy Recreation Center. The Carlson-Trenton game will air on Jan. 8 at 7 and 9:30 p.m.; Jan. 9 at 8 and 10:30 a.m.; on Jan. 12 at 8 a.m.; and Jan. 13 at Noon, according to a MHSAA release. Look for Patch at the Trenton High School Hockey Game

Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch editor Nate Stemen and associate regional editor John Hetzler will be greeting hockey fans Saturday night at the Kennedy Recreation Center.

The beautiful green Patch logo will shine like a beacon of cool and fun Saturday night as the Trenton Trojans take on the Wyandotte Bears at the Kennedy Recreation Center. Melted Ice Sends Hockey Tournament Out of Trenton

Ice rinks at the Kennedy Recreation Center in Trenton were melted Friday morning forcing staff to cancel a women's Tier 1 AAA Elite Hockey Tournament.

When Tim Beaker, operations manager at Kennedy Recreation Center, got to work Friday morning things were not cool. Things were not cool at all. A cooling tower located on the roof malfunctioned over night, which caused most of the ice on at least two rinks to melt. The lack of ice forced Beaker to send a women's hockey tournament to the Ice Box in Brownstown Township. Teams from the Tier 1 AAA Elite Hockey League from cities as far away as Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, Pittsburgh, PA and St. Louis, MO left Kennedy without so much as a single puck drop. The loss of business is expected to set the City of Trenton back about $1,000 in ice rentals and potential concession stand revenue, according to Beaker. Beaker said the problem is fixed and …

NHL Star Andy Greene to be Honored at Trenton High School Hockey Game (UPDATED)

New Jersey Devils star Andy Greene helped win a state championship for Trenton High School in 1998 and was given the coveted title of Mr. Hockey in 2000.

Former Trojan and current National Hockey League (NHL) star Andy Greene will be at the Trenton High School hockey team's home opener for a jersey retirement ceremony starting at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at Kennedy Recreation Center. Greene's former jersey and number, 8, will be retired between the first and second periods of the game as the Trenton Trojans begin their 2012-13 hockey season against Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook.
