Students were recognized for their overall academic and extracurricular achievements in high school.
Two Trenton and Grosse Ile high school students have been named to the 2013 "Brightest & Best" list of students in the Detroit Metro area. The students are Stephanie Galczyk of Trenton High School and Angela Halcisak of Grosse Ile High School. Each year, Channel 7 hosts a special event at WXYZ-TV and invites more than 250 honorees and their families to attend. The station teamed up with Gardner-White Furniture again this year to present the awards. This year, the honorees participated in a Twitter scavenger hunt on May 11.

Jim Stewart said that "dedicated staff" and "great kids" are big reasons why Grosse Ile High School made Newsweek's list of top schools in America.
Grosse Ile High School principal Jim Stewart said people are the key to his school’s success. “Dedicated staff, committed teachers, engaged parents, terrific support organizations .. and, of course, you begin with great kids who want to excel,” Stewart said in a story on Opportunity Grosse Ile. Grosse Ile made Newsweek’s list of top high schools in America. Grosse Ile High School was the only Downriver high school to be ranked in the top 2,000 public high schools in America by Newsweek magazine.
Grosse Ile High School was listed as one of America's best high schools in 2013 by Newsweek magazine, according to The Daily Beast. The list, released Monday, ranked Grosse Ile High School 998 out of 2,000 public high schools in America. Grosse Ile High School was the only Downriver school to be named to the list. Eighty-two public high schools in Michigan were added to the list including University High School Academy (603) in Southfield and Community High School (633) in Ann Arbor. The top three highest-ranked Michigan schools were International Academy (30) in Bloomfield Hills, Troy High School (134) in Troy and Okemos High School (287) in Okemos. Each year the Michigan High School Athletic Association award 32 scholarships to students with a 3.5 grade point average or higher and lettered in at least one sport.
Grosse Ile High School student Keeton Ross received the Scholar-Athlete Award presented by the Michigan High School Athletic Association on March 23 at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing. The award was presented to Ross during the 2013 MHSAA boys basketball finals. Ross will receive a $1,000 scholarship Farm Bureau Insurance, which he can use at the college of his choosing. Farm Bureau Insurance awarded 32 scholarships, proportionately by school classification, to students with a 3.50 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average who have previously lettered in at least one sport in which postseason competition is sponsored by the MHSAA, according to an MHSAA release. *The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation…

The championships will be broadcast live on MHSAA online TV.
The varsity cheer team from Grosse Ile High School travel to Grand Rapids Saturday to compete in the MHSAA Division 3 state finals. The cheer finals will be shown live on the MHSAA online TV channel here; the broadcast begins at 6p.m. Competing against Grosse Ile for the Division 3 title: Comstock Park, Lake Odessa, Lakewood, Otsego, Ovid-Elsie, Paw Paw, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and Richmond.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association awarded 32 student-athletes with scholarships through its Scholar-Athlete Award program.
A Grosse Ile teen was selected by the Michigan High School Athletic Association to receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Keeton Thayer Ross played numerous sports at Grosse Ile High School including baseball, basketball and football. He received all-conference honors for baseball and football and was an academic all-state athlete for baseball. Ross is an Eagle Scout, served as vice president and president of the school’s National Honor Society chapter and was president of the German Club. He plans on majoring in nuclear engineering and radiological sciences at either Georgia Tech or the University of California-Berkeley.
