A 21-year-old Lincoln Park man was killed in a car crash at about 2:50 a.m. June 17 at West Jefferson Avenue and Helen Street near Meyer Ellias Park in Trenton. The former Trenton resident was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s car collided with another car driven by a 49-year-old man with a 53-year-old female passenger, according to Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone. The crash caused both vehicles, a Ford Focus and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, to slide onto the grass in the park area. The man and woman were treated and released from Oakwood Southshore Medical Center. Tim and Jan Debacker own Debacker Lawn Care in Trenton and a recent fatal crash left them with a soon-to-be demolished building.
A local business owner said a fatal car crash that took place early Wednesday morning would lead to the demolition of a large building on his property on Fort Street. "I woke up to the bang," Trenton business owner Tim Debacker said. A 50-year-old Taylor man died after he attempted to elude police and crashed his car into one of Debacker's buildings at a high rate of speed. Tim and Jan Debacker have owned Debacker Lawn Care for nearly 25 years and have operated out of their current location, 2501 Fort Street, for 17 years. The two said the building has been hit before. Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone said the crash happened early Wednesday morning.
A 50-year-old Taylor man believed to have robbed a Gibraltar gas station is dead after crashing his car into a building at Debacker Lawn Care at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, while attempting to flee from police. Trenton police received a call from a citizen that a man and vehicle matching the description of a man suspected of robbing a Sunoco, 28975 W Jefferson Ave, moments before had pulled into the Future Fuels parking lot on Fort Street. Trenton's K-9 Unit responded to the call.
