In August, the Trenton Police Department began using a website that allows residents to track day-to-day crime in Trenton and receive crime statistics via email.
Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone said Thursday he believes the police department's Internet-based crime mapping service is proving to be an effective tool in tracking and fighting crime in Trenton. The Trenton Police Department began using CrimeMapping.com in August. The service allows residents of Trenton a glimpse into alleged crimes committed in Trenton in the last 24 hours. It also sends residents, who sign up for the free service, crime updates via email. Nardone said the service gives residents a unique look at crime happening in their neighborhoods. Trenton residents can learn of recent criminal activity in their neighborhood less than 24 hours after the alleged crime is reported.
The Trenton Police Department has become one of only a handful of southeastern law enforcement agencies to use Internet-based crime mapping to inform residents of recent alleged criminal activity. The website CrimeMapping.com allows residents of Trenton a glimpse into alleged crimes that were committed in and around Trenton in the last 24 hours. Trenton Police Chief Jim Nardone said the new tool can be used by both Trenton residents and the Trenton Police Department in an effort to create a partnership to help prevent future crimes. I like knowing what's going on myself. If you don't care then don't read the articles. It does appear a tad hokey though that most crimes get posted 3 times - the original, the re-posted later that week, the again for the weekly review.   more ›
