New Jersey Devil Andy Greene was like a thin, athletic Santa Claus last week when he sneaked into the locker room at Kennedy Recreation Center.
The Trenton High School hockey team suited up last week in their traditional white jerseys and took the ice at Kennedy Recreation Center for a pregame warm up. When they returned to the locker room their faces lit up as if it were Christmas morning. While the players warmed up, NHL star and former Trojan Andy Greene went from locker to locker hanging new jerseys for each player like a much thinner and far more athletic Santa Claus. Greene, who plays for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League, purchased new gold home jerseys for the entire team. "When they went into the room and saw them hanging, there was a tremendous amount of excitement," Head Coach Mike Turner said. In honor of Greene's status as captain of his former team…

Former Trenton High School hockey player Andy Greene took advantage of the lockout by attending a jersey retirement ceremony in his honor at Kennedy Recreation Center.
As a group of children surrounded him begging for autographs, Andy Greene looked out over the ice at Kennedy Recreation Center and smiled. Greene has plenty to smile about. He currently plays in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils. His team recently made a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. And he's a Trojan. Greene's status as a former Trenton High School hockey player was immortalized Wednesday night when a banner with his name and number was retired to the rafters above the ice where he once played as a boy. When Greene helped win a state championship for the Trojans in 1998, he dreamed of playing like Detroit Red Wing legends Steve Yzerman and Niklas Lidstrom. He never imagined he would be honored by his former team in …

Former Trojan and current National Hockey League (NHL) star Andy Greene will be at the Trenton High School hockey team's home opener for a jersey retirement ceremony starting at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at Kennedy Recreation Center. Sign up for the Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch newsletter. Greene's former jersey and number, 8, will be retired between the first and second periods of the game as the Trenton Trojans begin their 2012-13 hockey season against Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook. While former Trojan superstar Andy Greene has gone onto a successful professional hockey career, the week of his first hockey school in his hometown shows just how down-to-earth he remains.
Born and raised Trenton native Andy Greene is now a millionaire, professional hockey player who should be spending his summers in Dubai and his nights on the Vegas strip. Apparently, Greene missed the memo. "I just could not believe the excitement on their faces," was his interesting answer to what he felt was the biggest surprise of his first hockey school hosted at the Kennedy Recreation Center this week. It's interesting because to most everyone else besides the impressively modest 5'11, 28-year-old hockey star, playing hockey with Andy Greene is a big deal. He's Andy Greene for crying out loud. He's the guy that all those campers daddys have probably told them stories about since the youngsters first put on skates. He's the 2001 …
