"There have been instances where bullying was the root of the cause of self-harm, drug use, shootings, suicides, and deep hurt," Siggia said. Siggia said the district's goal…

Trenton High School graduate J.J. Putz played catcher until ninth grade when coaches noticed he had a powerful throwing arm during freshman tryouts.
Smiles and excitement beamed toward one of Trenton's most famous former athletes as district and city officials watched J.J. Putz inspire children at Hedke Elementary Thursday morning-- the students enjoyed it too. Major League Baseball closing pitcher Putz, 35, graduated from Trenton High School in 1995 and went on to play baseball at the University of Michigan, until he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners. The Arizona Diamondbacks recently picked up Putz' contract option for the 2013 season for $6.5 million. Putz returned to Trenton to speak to students at Hedke and Anderson elementary schools about the keys to following their D-R-E-A-M's (Drug Free, Respect, Education, Attitude and Motivation). "If you can just touch a couple of those …

Trenton City Clerk Trish Gearhart moved three voting precincts out of Trenton elementary schools to ensure student safety on election day.
In an effort to ensure student safety, three precincts at Trenton elementary schools have been moved for the November election. Residents who voted at precinct 2 located at Anderson Elementary School now vote at the Westfield Activities Center and those who voted at Hedke Elementary School, precincts 4 and 5, now vote at the Kennedy Recreation Center. Trenton City Clerk Trish Gearhart said the precincts were moved to ensure the safety of students, among other reasons. "On election day anyone can go to the schools, not just Trenton voters," Gearhart said. "You’ve got strangers wandering around the schools on election day." Gearhart said she was approached by parents and at least one teacher who had complained about voting taking place …
