Nearly 3,000 people died as a result of the events that took place on Sept. 11, 2001 and, like me, millions of Americans are spending the 11th anniversary of the attack in reflection. Fire fighters at the Trenton Fire Department are reflecting on the first responders who risked their lives to save others for months following the attack on the twin towers in New York, NY. Some people have called into radio programs to share their own personal stories about the fateful morning, while others reflect on the events by posting on the Trenton Patch Facebook page. In honor of the people who died on 9/11 and all those affected by the tragic events that day, Trenton-Grosse Ile Patch wants to know what you hold most dear. Submit a photo of the …

Tuesday's boat trip, in honor of Patriot Day, will depart from Wyandotte's Bishop Park at 7 p.m.
Veterans are invited to a free boat ride up and down the Detroit River on Tuesday to mark Patriot Day. The event is being sponsored by Friends of Cynthia Kallgren. Kallgren, a Republican, is running against longtime U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Dearborn) in the Nov. 6 election. "Cynthia Kallgren's father served in the Army," her campaign said in a press release. "In his memory and in thanks to all of the men and women who protect our freedoms day in and day out, she is inviting veterans to join her for free on the Diamond Jack River Boat setting sail from (Wyandotte's) Bishop Park." Boarding begins at 6:45 p.m., with a 7 p.m. departure. Free parking is available at the foot of Oak Street near the park. Beverages and light refreshments will be…

A sermon nearly 10 years old still rings true.
Father Brad Forintos of St. Joseph's Catholic Church thinks back at the sermon he gave just days after September 11, 2001, and offers a unique way of looking at the situation and the people involved.

But New York City firefighters were already in abundance, according to Washburn. In mid-October 2001 Lesko got word about an event that allowed them an opportunity to honor their fellow firefighters. The three men heard about a walk organized by Jim Etzin of the Farmington Hills Fire …
