As a lifetime Trenton resident, I loved bringing my kids to the Scarecrow Festival. Then OctoberRead More 2011 I decided to have a booth promoting my Scentsy business. Beautiful weekend and a success! It was the last year Trenton was in charge of the vendors/crafters applications. The following year the outside company allowed another vendor to do Scentsy who lives an hour away when I had already said I wanted to do it again and told my customers to shop for the fall. I heard the app fee had went up again alot. The company handling the applications raised the fee again, this time to over $700. Unfortunately I won't even apply, that's about what I sold. I thought Trenton wanted to grow the festival and make it better. That won't happen if they raise the vendor fee and continue to allow a 3rd party handle it. I was born and raised here, my kids are being raised here. I do the Trenton Mid Summer Festival, this will be my 3rd year. Im just so disappointed! I really wanted to do this one again. It's a lot of fun, and I got to see a lot of my same customers. Instead I will be taking my family to another city's festival that weekend! Just needed to voice my opinion and frustrations!

When will the city of Trenton wake up and put the demolition of this place on the same level as theRead More issues with the old Riverside Hospital?

Wow, how sad. Seems like a bomb hit 50 years ago, not that the place was actuallyup and running inRead More my lifetime. They need to do something.

Excellent photo story. What was part of yesterdays American dream, has turned into Downriver'sRead More nightmare. It needs to go, to make way for our children's new dreams to be created. It is more than just an eyesore!

The great thing about Dearborn in particular is that what all of the different cultures bring theRead More community as a whole. Here in Dearborn we are exposed to all different types of art be it historical, creative or musical. I'm happy to see the love affair with Art explode more into the public eye here in Dearborn. As Jessica says above, check out the Nagler exhibit. I took some classes from him in the past and the man is a cultural icon for Michigan, he studied with Ansel Adams the pioneer of American landscape photography. If you get to be there when he is around, stop and talk to him, he's got some great stories.

Dearborn is a great place for artists and art enthusiasts for many reasons. Art around theRead More town...have you noticed the incredible sculptures throughout downtown? Wonderful! Music everywhere...from summer concerts in the parks to the performing arts center, there is something for everyone! Young musicians, old musicians and everyone in between! Theater productions galore!...the players' guild, the DHS Thespians (I am soooo excited to see Beauty and the Beast in a few weeks!) Dearborn is a great place to be an artist and to partake!

My favorite concert was August 8th, 1974 at then Pine Knob, we were there to see Joni Mitchell. SheRead More stopped the concert midway and announced Richard Nixon had resigned and went to say something to her band. She then stated playing/singing the national anthem, as we all did with lighters lit. I truly believed the country started to heal right, then and now.

Had to be the early 70s when opening night was Detroit's academy awards. We all waited outside forRead More one person. Hank the Dues's wife to show up in her dress she would almost be wearing. Great times. Limos everywhere. No Hank though. Meadow Brook was good until basket search.

This is exciting as I don't always have time to attend both but will be able to with the dateRead More change!
Scott Kloock April 18, 2013 at 02:48 pm
Marie, I would have to ask when is the last time you attended the Festival? The Festival itself isRead More the "draw", but there are also businesses downtown that are thriving. The Festival is and always has been a Trenton "Homecoming" for many residents and former residents. The only reason the Dates were changed was due to 2 large local festivals occurring at the same time, 1 smaller festival & further out, the Plymouth festival. By changing the date, we have allowed more Vendors the opportunity to participate and allow Trenton to Kickoff the Summer Festival season.

continued... Last year was the biggest crowd we've ever had at the Main Stage. Mitch Ryder wasRead More awesome and the people loved it! If you truly think it's a joke, then you obviously don't care about the city or what it has to offer. Yes, people do go for the beer tents since they are a gathering area, just as they are in Wyandotte, but there is so much more. I have talked with many of our Crafters who love it in Trenton. They have told me it is not only cleaner, but also run tremendously well. The Bounce area for the kids is always a hit, as is the Kid's Korner for the younger ones. The Entertainment offers Music and Dance for all different tastes! The Downtown area is the optimum location due to the logistics of closing the streets and still allowing access to the north or south exits. Local Businesses are encouraged to participate and be active with the Festival just as our local Groups are. It is a Community event that has been running strong for 38 years and the people in place, it will continue to run strong and offer the Downriver area an event with being part of. Trenton Summer Festival 2013 - June 27th thru 30th
Scott Kloock April 18, 2013 at 03:04 pm
Just a heads up William... the reason the dates weren't changed before is that they had been theRead More same for 37yrs. Wyandotte is the festival that fluctuated their dates based on the dates for Ann Arbor. The Trenton Summer Festival has always been the "homecoming" time for those who have moved away from the area to return and visit with Friends & Family. With multiple Festivals on the same date, we chose to move the dates and start the Summer right. Ours is a city/community festival, not a business. Tradition means a lot in Trenton... Hockey, Football, Summer Festival... we are hoping this starts new traditions and a better Festival experience for everyone, the People attending, the vendors, the crafters, the businesses & the city. Take good care and have an awesome SUMMER!
