Weather Report, Rain Date for Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks

"The only way we will cancel is if there becomes a public safety situation," Joanne Perna, director of parks and recreation, said.

The weather so far this summer has been down right nasty. It seems to rain on every important day in the City of Trenton.

We saw rain during the Trenton Summer Festival preview event Thursday night and during the festival throughout the weekend.

The Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks might be no exception.

On Tuesday, the National Weather Service called for a chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day and night on July 4. The day's high is expected to be around 79 degrees and the night's low is expected to be about 67 degrees with a 30 to 40 percent chance of precipitation.

A rain date for the fireworks is scheduled for July 5 at dusk at Trenton Rotary Park.

Joanne Perna, director of parks and recreation, said "the (Trenton) fireworks committee will be in constant contact with the pyrotechnician assessing the weather situation throughout the day and the hours leading up to the event."

"The only way we will cancel is if there becomes a public safety situation," Perna said.

City employees will be posting updates on the Trenton Parks and Recreation Facebook and Twitter pages.

The rain date fireworks display, if needed, is expected to be the same show as intended for July 4.

Road closures will remain until after the rain date, if necessary.
