Guide to the 2013 Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks

When the sun goes down the sparks will fly at dusk July 4 at Rotary Park in Trenton.

With booms choreographed to music, a live band and plenty of food the Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks are sure to be one the summer’s biggest bangs.

Local sponsors and a generous donation from Fritz Enterprises and Huron Valley Steel paid for the entire event including an audio system used to set the show to music.

"This is going to be big," said Joann Perna, director of parks and recreation.

Families are also encouraged to bring a blanket and a picnic dinner, if they wish, and enjoy the concert in anticipation of the grand finale fireworks display.

The music

The night kicks off at 8 p.m. with patriotic music from the Downriver Community Band made up of local musicians from around Downriver. The DCB promises the swinging sounds of big band tunes and enough patriotic music to make you stand up and cheer.

The DCB has been a staple of Trenton’s fireworks celebration for years. The band is scheduled to play until about 9:30 p.m., with a short break in the middle of the performance.

The fireworks

This year’s fireworks are going to be choreographed with chest rattling music, so every bang and flash is in time with the beats pumping from a huge audio system.

For those watching from their front porch, be sure to tune your FM dial to hear a simulcast of the music, so you don’t miss any of the action. The simulcast will be on an FM frequency to be determined on the July 4, according to Perna.

Check the City of Trenton website for information on the simulcast.

Attendees can expect to hear a mix of all different genres of music including patriotic songs, big band tunes and some more modern, upbeat tracks.

The fireworks ignite from a barge anchored in the Detroit River at about 10 p.m. and last about 25 minutes.

The food

There will be no shortage of snacks available with the Trenton Lions Club selling hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, snow cones, soft drinks and bottled water.

The Trenton Ice Cream Shop will also be selling snacks and refreshments.

There will not be any alcohol sold at the event.
