Trenton Grad Makes MLB Debut

Matt Shoemaker will pitch tonight for the Los Angeles Angels.

Matt Shoemaker, a  2004 graduate of Trenton High School, will make his first appearance in a major league baseball game tonight for the Los Angeles Angels, according to Trenton baseball coach Todd Szalka.

Shoemaker will start in place of injured pitcher Jerad Weaver.

After graduating from Trenton, Shoemaker played for the Eastern Michigan Eagles baseball team and then played in the minor leagues. In 2012, he was invited to spring training with the Angels.

Shoemaker joins fellow Trenton grads Anthony Bass (2005), pitcher for the San Diego Padres and J.J. Putz (1995), relief pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the majors.
