Trenton Falls To Kennedy In Finals
In a district final for the first time in 10 years, Trenton got in a hole early and never could quite climb out, losing to the Eagles , 54-42.
They gave a valient effort, but in the end, Kennedy was just too much for the upstart Trojans basketball team Friday night in the district championship at Carlson.
The Trojans lost to the Eagles 54-42.
The Trojans fell behind early in the game with Kennedy jumping out to a 10-point first quarter lead, a deficit that Trenton coach Rick Morrow said was what won the game for the Eagles.

"They jumped out early and we just could never crawl our way back into it," Murrow said. "We are young and just not quite good enough to come back against a team like that yet."
Trenton was able to cut the lead to three at the half, but the Eagles started the third quarter much like they did the first with increased defensive pressure and a relentless fastbreak that propelled them to a double-digit lead that they never surrendered.

The positives certainly outweighed the negatives in the Trenton locker room after the game. Trenton was never expected to advance in the tournament knocking off favored Southgate Anderson Wednesday and hung closely with the supremely athletic Eagles led by all-downriver star junior Aaron Hayes.
"I'm proud as heck of these kids," Morrow beamed. "They are young and relentless. At one point, I had four sophomores on the floor at the same time. That team (Kennedy) is very good and Hayes is the real deal, and we played with them."
Junior Mike Czarnecki, the point guard and floor general for the Trojans, chased down the Kennedy guards all night as well as carrying the ball handling duties against relentless full-court pressure. He echoed his coach's sentiments.
"This is a good team," Czarnecki said. "Not a whole lot of people gave us a chance, but here we were in the school's first district final in a long time and we played well."
The Trojans defense held Hayes to 18 points and saddled him on the bench with foul trouble for much of the game. Chad Hamilton led the team again in scoring for the second straight game with 13 points and big man Dan Hall had 12. Terez Smith was huge on the boards pulling down 13 rebounds.
"Mark my words," said Murrow. "We will be back next year and things will be different."
"We're going to win it next year," promised Czarnecki. "This is a dang good team and we'll be even better next year."
