Whiz Kid - Katherine Boucher
Boucher is an eighth-grade, straight-A student at Arthurs Middle School who scored all 1s at the recent Solo and Ensemble competition.
Name: Katherine Boucher
Accomplishment: The consistent straight-A student at Boyd W. Arthurs Middle School scored all 1s at the district’s Solo and Ensemble competition on January 29. The Trenton eighth-grader smoothly performed a saxophone solo entitled “Allegretto Brillante” by J. Demersseman and scored a 1 (the highest honor given) at the competition. Boucher and schoolmate Hailey Chenavare combined for a duet at the competition and also received a 1.
Key to Awesomeness: Boucher is a budding young musician who is not satisfied with mastering only one instrument. In addition to three years of private lessons on the saxophone, Boucher taught herself the clarinet and mastered instruction books for fifth-eighth grades. The very next day she began to learn the flute. She recently borrowed a friend’s trumpet and is planning to learn the ins and outs of that instrument.

“Kath is quiet and self-motivated,” Katherine’s mother Jen Boucher said. “She rarely has homework because she gets it done during school. She is also gifted with animals and aspires to become a veterinarian.”
