Trenton Students Vote Down Body Art Ban at City Hall

Students from Trenton High School took over Trenton City Hall Tuesday during Student Government Day.

"Tats is where it's at," Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack yelled from the audience in council chambers at Trenton City Hall.

Student City Administrator Casey Jezewski made a faux recommendation to student city council members Tuesday morning to create a policy banning offensive body art on city employees during a mock city council meeting.

Trenton High School students took on the roles of mayor, city council members during Student Government Day.

The fake motion heated up when Stack, posing as an agitated resident, insisted she would picket in front of city hall if council members voted in favor of the ban.

Stack said although she is not an official advocate of tattoos, she was willing to pretend to be for the good of the 27 visiting students.

The faux recommendation failed 2-4.

Student Government Day allows students a first-hand look into the inner-workings of local government. City administrators and council members were on hand to help students ease into their new positions as police chief, fire chief, city assessor and more.

Several students called the day an eye-opening experience.

"I thought city hall was a building that was completely empty," Vincenzo Gugliemetti said.
