Trenton High School Hosting Drug Awareness Workshop Tonight

What are the top three drugs abused by teens? Find out at a free workshop called "Drugs 101: What Parents Need to Know" tonight at Trenton High School.

Educators from Saint Joseph Mercy Health System will be at Trenton High School tonight to teach local parents about drugs in a workshop called Drugs 101: What Parents Need to Know.

The two-hour workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the auditiorium at Trenton High School.

The workshop is designed "to educate parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers and administrators about the various forms of drugs and the peer pressures facing students to use them," according to the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Participants will be asked to enter a mock bedroom belonging to a drug-using teenager and attempt to identify drug and alcohol related paraphernalia that have been placed within the room.

Educators will also discuss over 70 ways to identify drug, tobacco or alcohol use in teens.

"The goal of this program is to empower participants with the knowledge they need to spot warning signs of drug abuse in time to intervene and/or prevent it," according to the SJMHS.
