School Board Approves Exchange of Properties Including McKinley School, Memorial Pool

The Wyandotte Board of Education voted at a special meeting Thursday to exchange McKinley School for three other properties.

The Wyandotte Board of Education approved an agreement to exchange properties with the city at a special meeting Thursday evening.

The agreement, which was first dicussed at a meeting on Oct. 16, was for the sale and exchange of real property which includes exchanging McKinley School, 640 Plum, for three properties.

Those properties are: Memorial Pool, 4460 18th; 2946 7th; and 906 Goddard.

City Administrator Todd Drysdale said the city and school district have been discussing the exchange for several weeks. The City Council is set to vote on the matter Monday.

Wyandotte Public Schools Superintendent Carla Harting said that the district currently provides heat and upkeep of the vacant McKinley property.

"This transaction would be a significant savings to our district," she said shortly before the vote of approval.

Harting said there are several possible future uses as well, including additional parking near The Lincoln Center and the garage on the property being used for storage after minor improvements.

She added that the Memorial Pool area could be classrooms, storage and a conference room after necessary repairs are made.

The use of the property near the administration building will be determined in the future, Harting said.

I'm not familiar with how this works but, can the author of the article please expand on who the other side of the transaction was that was involved in the exchange? Meaning, was the exchange between the school district and the city and the city now owns the McKinley property? Thanks in advanced.

John, The exchange is between the school district and the city. I added a bit for clarification. Thanks, Erica

Erica, Was there any indication of what the City intends on doing with the McKinley School property?
