News Brief: Trenton Public Schools Appoint New Principal of Anderson Elementary

Douglas Mentzer has been appointed principal of Jesse L. Anderson Elementary School for the 2011-12 school year.

Officials at have appointed Douglas Mentzer as principal of for the 2011-12 school year according to public school officials.

Mentzer has worked with Trenton Public Schools for 17 years beginning as a social studies teacher at in 1994. He also served as the department chair for four years.

He served as the assistant principal at for one year and then served five years as the assistant principal at Trenton High School. Mentzer was also the athletic director during this time.

Most recently, Mentzer served as the director for career and technical education for Trenton Public Schools.

Mentzer has a master's degree and a specialist degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

"I am very excited to begin a new chapter in my professional life," Mentzer said. "I look forward to working with our students, staff and parents at Anderson and envision continued success and progress."

Mentzer is replacing Kathleen Gibson who is retiring. Gibson has spent more than 35 in education.
