Michigan Legislators Invited to Attend Education Forum

The forum to discuss public school budget issues will take place Thursday at Southgate Anderson.

Trenton Public Schools officials, officials from other Downriver districts, two Michigan senators and four Michigan House Representatives have been invited to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Southgate Anderson High School, 15475 Leroy.

Downriver district officials have invited Michigan legislators to a public forum in an effort to discuss the serious budget conditions concerning public schools Downriver.

The forum is open to the public and John Savel, superintendent of , encouraged Trenton residents to attend.

"As I have said in the past, I believe the best action right now for Trenton Public Schools (to the state's budget) is to keep the Trenton Educational Community informed about what is happening," Savel said.

Invited legislators are state Sen. Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton Township; Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood, D-Taylor; Rep. Paul Clemente, D-Lincoln Park; Rep. Andrew Kandrevas, D-Southgate; Rep. Patrick Somerville, R-Huron Township; and Rep. Doug Geiss, D-Taylor.

The forum is set to include local budget stories and discussions with the legislatures, with the help of a moderator.
