Hedke to Receive Playground Equipment from Taylor

Hedke Elementary is gearing up to receive playground equipment from doomed Taylor Elementary.

is set to receive several pieces of playground equipment from before Taylor is demolished.

According to Ann Deneroff, curriculum director and acting district superintendent, Hedke has plenty of space for the equipment and its more than 500 students are sure to enjoy it.

"We did have a conversation with Mr. (Vince) Porreca and he was very much interested and felt that the students at Hedke would enjoy having more playground equipment to play with," Deneroff said.

The idea of moving the euipment was introduced by Trenton resident and Parent Teacher Organization of Trenton member Jay Gulley on June 13 at the last regularly scheduled board meeting where to have Taylor demolished.

Board President Dennis Bearden said the newer equipment at Taylor was purchased by the PTO and said Gulley felt the equipment should be moved to Hedke where students can enjoy it.

"Initially there was some reluctance to move it and the neighborhood may enjoy it more by staying at the original school, but Jay (Gulley) felt that it would be more appropriate to move it to Hedke," Bearden said.

The Hedke PTO set aside $2,000 for new wood-chips to surround the new equipment.

Not all of the equipment at Taylor will be moved to Hedke, according to Deneroff. Some of the equipment is dated and she said the older items would be removed from Taylor, but not moved to Hedke. She did not say what would happen to the dated equipment.

The labor will be handled by the existing grounds crew at Trenton Public Schools at minimal costs for cement to anchor the equipment to the ground.
