Golf Outing at Lake Erie Metropark to Benefit Trenton High’s Athletics Program

The Trenton High School athletics program is seeking golfers and donations.

Marketing students at are turning their classroom studies into real world experience, and they hope to help save the school’s athletics program in the process.

Raising funds for the school usually consists of traditional means, such as selling pizza kits and candy.

But when $100,000 was recently cut from the athletic program’s budget, the situation became dire, so Trenton’s athletic director Bret Woodley and marketing teacher Chris Crews came up with a golf outing as a way to raise badly needed funds. Crews’ marketing students were brought in to assist selling the sponsorships in what amounts to a real marketing simulation, of sorts.

“My hope is that students will understand how important their efforts can be,” said Woodley.

To date, the students, who are mostly seniors, have registered at least 100 golfers and landed 25 hole sponsors, which run $100 apiece.

“This shows the type of wonderful student Trenton High School produces,” said Woodley. “In addition, the community has really backed this cause.”

The outing will take place May 7 at Lake Erie Metropark golf course and costs $75 to enter. To register, call Bret Woodley at (734) 363-3689.
