First-Time Cast Members Dominate Trenton High School Spring Musical

Students at Trenton High School are turning "13," all over again for the spring musical.

Nearly half of this year's cast of the Trenton High School spring musical are first-time performers, according to Director of Music Mike Kurilko.

There are over 50 students involved in the production of "13" The Musical," with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn.

The musical features Trenton sophomore Gavin Alvedy in the lead role of "Evan Goldman," a 12 year old boy who, after his parents tell him over the phone that they are splitting up, has to move from Manhattan to rural Indiana and make a whole new set of friends at an entirely new school, according to Kurilko.

"There are three big full-cast numbers with choreography plus many other songs," Kurilko said.

The musical features several different types of music including Motown, rhythm and blues and rock and roll.

Students take the stage at 7 p.m. March 21-23 at the Trenton High School auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, and are available at the door.

"It's a play written about middle school angst to be played by kids that age," Kurilko said. " It's a rare thing when a play has only teenagers as characters, which is, of course, perfect for high school kids to perform."
