Arthurs Middle School Makes Schools to Watch List

Boyd W. Arthurs Middle School become one of under 300 schools in the nation to be honored by being placed on the Schools to Watch list.

Only schools deemed academically excellent, developmentally responsive and socially equitable are selected for the honor according to the Schools to Watch website.

Officials and teachers from the school are set to be nationally recognized at a Schools to Watch conference in June.

Middle School students excelling in reading and writing attended Monday's Trenton Board of Education meeting to be recognized for the honor.

Students read pieces of writing they prepared for the occasion. Each student spoke about their renewed love for reading and their increasing abilities in the areas of reading and writing.

Arthurs Middle School will now be considered a school that other schools accross the country can use as an example of success in academic excellence.

The National Schools to Watch initiative was created by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform according to the website.

"The National Forum identifies schools across the United States that are well on their way to meeting the Forum's criteria for high performance," according to the website.

A banner raising ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. April 26 at Arthurs Middle School.
