Another Elementary Teacher Gets Gold

Trenton Public Schools board members presented Wendy Tsakiris, teacher at R. C. Hedke Elementary School, with the Golden Apple Award.

Janice Misko, former principal at , gushed about the May 2011 Golden Apple Award winner Wendy Tsakiris, teacher at .

Misko said Tsakiris once worked both with her and for her for three years when she was principal at Taylor. Tsakiris was the reading and recovery teacher at Taylor.

Now a teacher at Hedke, Tsakiris maintains the same standard of professionalism and dedication as she did when she worked at Taylor. Taylor Elementary School has since closed due to budget cuts.

Board of education members presented Tsakiris with the award at Monday's board of education meeting and Misko spoke publicly about her former employee.

"If there is anyone employed in the that fits the description of professional educator it is Wendy (Tsakiris)," Misko said. "She worked so hard with all of our reading and recovery students and it was amazing how engrossed she could be (with her students)."

Tsakiris said though she has difficulty speaking in front of an audience she wanted to say a few things about the award.

"I do not feel worthy of this award because I am just a small part of what we do everyday," Tsakiris said. "My colleagues. Their dedication, their talent, their knowledge, their flexibility only makes me that much stronger."
