Eight Trenton Teachers Receive Pink Slips

Trenton Board of Education members voted in favor of handing eight teachers pink slips Monday night.

members voted unanimously to lay-off eight teachers for the 2012-13 school year at the regularly scheduled board of education meeting Monday night.

The reduction of teacher personnel goes into effect at the conclusion of the school day on June 14.

There are three general education, two special education and one hearing impaired teachers included in the reduction of staff.

According to interim Superintendent Larry Leapley the staff reduction would result in class sizes of 29-32 students per class at and and 25-28 at the elementary schools.

Board members also approved a resolution to call back the laid-off teachers as needed based upon the economic conditions of the district.

Board President Mike Hawkins said he hopes to be able to bring all of the teachers back before the start of the 2012-13 school year.

The reduction is the smallest number of teachers laid-off for several years. Last year, and many were called back.
