John Courtney, of Wyandotte, began working at Trenton Auto Parts in 1983. Sixteen years later, he purchased the property and everything on it.
After 30 years of helping people find used auto parts for their vehicles, Courtney has placed the business up for sale.
"I just can't run the place by myself," Courtney said.
Courtney said the most interesting thing about owning a junk yard is the people.
"People get attached to their cars," Courtney said.
Courtney recalled a customer who told him he once worked on the property--in the 1930s and 40s.
"He said he worked here before he went into the Navy," Courtney said. "He used to cut up (Ford) Model-Ts with hammers and chisels."
Despite the constant flow of new people to meet, Courtney said Trenton Auto Parts could potentially close if he can't find a buyer for the property.
