Expect Video Surveillance on West Road Closure After Incident on Fourth of July

Tampering with a closure could result in a misdemeanor, according to Cindy Nocerini Dingell, deputy chief operating officer of Wayne County Department of Public Services.

Trenton and Grosse Ile residents who use West Road to access Telegraph Road will need to find an alternate route.

West Road will be closed at Heritage Drive from Monday, July 15 to Sunday, July 21, so workers can replace a box culvert that crosses under the intersection.

Traffic will be shifted to the north lanes on West Road throughout the weekend.

Cindy Nocerini Dingell, deputy chief operating officer of Wayne County Department of Public Services, said the lane shift would not affect the Uncle Sam Jam scheduled through July 14 in Civic Center Park in Woodhaven.

Detours will likely be posted following the closure.

Nocerini Dingell said a recent incident in which barriers were moved and damaged at the West Road exit ramp on I-75 prompted her department to seek video surveillance from the Michigan Department of Transportation.

"The ramp is closed to traffic for the duration of the project and we hope there are no further incidents," Nocerini Dingell said. "Tampering with the closure could result in a misdemeanor."
