Unsafe Fitness Equipment to be Removed From Slocum Truax Park

Fitness equipment at Slocum Truax Park is over 30 years old and has become unsafe.

Fitness equipment at Slocum Truax Park has become unsafe and will be removed by the City of Trenton.

Work to remove the dated equipment has already begun and should be completed soon.

Joan Perna, director of parks and recreation, said the equipment is unsafe due to disrepair and age.

An asphalt path at the park will be removed, as well. The path has fallen into disrepair, is too narrow and is no longer necessary, according to Perna.

City employees will begin removing aging equipment at other parks throughout Trenton over time. A completion date for the project was not available Wednesday afternoon.

Aging equipment might be replaced with new playground equipment depending on demand. The money to replace equipment would come from a Wayne County Parks grant, which Trenton received over two years ago.
