UPDATED: Trenton School Board Member Fed Up With Garbage Heading to Riverview Landfill

King Road is often littered with trash falling out of various garbage trucks making their way to the Riverview Land Preserve.

member Thomas Kinney complained to mayor and council members about trash from garbage trucks blowing into in his yard last Monday at the Trenton City Council meeting.

Kinney said he's found bricks, pieces of metal and various other pieces of trash in his yard--including 300 coffee creamers in one day.

"It is a nuisance, and I don't know what can be done," Kinney said. "It seems to be getting worse."

He said the trash falls off a number of garbage trucks driving to the .

"I think it's just them (garbage haulers) flying through there and all the trash is flying into the street and it just gets in my yard," Kinney said. "It's just a pain to pick up everyday."

Kinney added he would like to see someone come out at the end of the day to clean any trash in the road.

Kinney brought photos of various pieces of trash he found in his yard near King Road and passed them out to mayor and council members.

Mayor Kyle stack said she and Trenton officials would contact the City of Riverview about the issue.

"We'll talk to the City of Riverview and see if there is something that can be done with their haulers," Stack said.

Trenton City Administrator Jim Wagner sent a letter regarding the issue to Riverview City Manager Dean Workman on Thursday. Wagner was unavailable for comment Monday afternoon.

Kinney said he and his son clean up pieces of trash found in his yard everyday. Before he cleans up the trash, Kinney said he often takes pictures for reference.

The landfill received violation after an inspector from the Wayne County Department of Public Services responded to a complaint call from a Trenton resident in February.

Kinney said the smell from the landfill remains "atrocious." He said his daughter called the odor "sour smelling" early Monday morning of last week.

Patrick Cullen, acting director of the Land Resource Management Division for Wyane County, said he has not received complaints about trash.

He added the landfill is required to clean up any debris within 2500 feet of the landfill entrance in either direction.

The staff does pick up trash regularly," Cullen said. "Some of the issue is beyond the landfill's control. (For example) if you get a couple rouge garbage truck drivers.”

*A previous version of this article stated the letter was sent to Land Preserve Director Bob Bobeck.

Have you noticed trash on the ground from garbage trucks heading to the Riverview Land Preserve? If so, what was it? Where did you see it? And how often does this occur?

I don't think there is an over abundance of trash on the side of the road. City residents and/or administrators can request the 33rd Dist. Court's work program to clean King Road every Saturday.

i stopped a week ago at the landfill. there was a large trash bag on king rd. i told them at the landfill and woman secretary went "to tell her boss". nobody's fooling anybody here: a]it was a LARGE trash bag and b] it had been there for some time as cars were scattering it all over the road. week before that a LARGE piece of carpet layed on allen rd. for at least 24 hours. if it isn't the trash it's the mud from the trucks that dries and blows around. it's actually the american way these days. somebody gets rich and the populace suffers. i would say there's trash on king road at least every other day, or everyday west of grange. i live in north trenton, when i called trenton police they said they would send a car AFTER they finished another call. i wonder after an accident is caused by trash if those people will have to wait?
