12th Congressional District: Cynthia Kallgren

This is the first of a four part series introducing the candidates running for the 12th Congressional seat.

A Trenton resident has tossed her hat in the ring for the Republican nomination in the new 12th Congressional district and attempt to take down veteran Democratic representative John Dingell.

Republican Cynthia Kallgren, 52, is running to represent Downriver, Dearborn, Bellville, Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor.

Kallgren is a mother, small business owner, lifelong resident of southeast Michigan and graduate of Eastern Michigan University.

Kallgren has been active in local politics and government. She has been a volunteer, campaign worker and advocate for various causes, including fiscal accountability, a woman’s right to refuse, and economic and local business development, according to a release from Kallgren.

Kallgren was also a candidate for state representative in 2010.

“I feel passionately about the issues facing our district and our nation and would be honored to represent the voice and concerns of the people of southeast Michigan as a mother, a citizen and a public servant in Washington,” she said in the release. “Together we can bring Michigan back to life.”

As a Republican she first faces Karen Jacobsen of Dearborn in the primary election on Aug. 7.
