Trenton Officials Seek to Allow Veterans Preferential Treatment

Under a new ordinance, military veterans would be preferred for employment with the City of Trenton.

In an effort to better serve the community, Trenton officials will propose a new ordinance regarding military veterans at Monday's city council meeting at 8 p.m. at Trenton City Hall.

The ordinance would offer preferential treatment to veterans in opportunities of employment and appointment, according to the meeting agenda.

Ordinance No. 766 reads:

The city of Trenton has determined that it can better serve the community by granting unto veterans a debt of gratitude to veterans who have served in the armed services in time of war, by granting them a preference in original employment and retention thereof in public services...

The ordinance goes before council members for a first reading. If approved, it must be voted upon and approved a second time before it can be enacted.
